A Hackathon project is using Microsoft HoloLens to try and help people with neurological disorders by retraining the brain to learn new firing connections. The augmented-reality project was inspired by a Microsoft employee diagnosed with a condition that causes her brain to misfire and trigger uncontrollable muscle spasms. The diagnosis became her inspiration to help others.
“The basic idea is: We’re going to rewire the brain using HoloLens to provide the brain a new learned connection,” says the employee. If you think of neurology as a street map, the brain has preferred firing paths. The project aims to retrain the brain to take alternative paths in an effort to give people greater functionality.
